Van Lanschot Kempen shocked by sudden death of Joop Witteveen

It is with shock and grief that Van Lanschot Kempen learned of the sudden, unexpected passing of Joop Witteveen last Saturday.

Together with his team, Joop Witteveen was responsible for funds including the Kempen Orange Fund N.V. and Kempen Oranje Participaties N.V. He was an engaged shareholder who was deeply committed to the success of the Kempen small-cap funds for over 25 years. The members of the small-cap team, Michiel van Dijk, Erwin Dut, and Sander van Oort, will continue the work taking inspiration from Joop’s example.

Leni Boeren, Chair of the Kempen board, stated: ‘With Joop’s death, we lose a highly esteemed colleague with unprecedented passion for his work and his clients. His knowledge of Dutch small caps was inexhaustible. Joop was an engaged and committed shareholder who put his heart and soul into following the companies in his portfolio, and who never shied away from holding managers accountable for the course they steered.’

Karl Guha, Chair of the Van Lanschot Kempen board, declared: ‘We have lost a brilliant professional and one of the founding fathers of the Kempen Orange Fund, a colleague who stood as an example to many, both inside and outside our organization. We are grateful for what he meant to us and we will remember him as a dedicated investor and a wonderful person. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his wife, his children, his family, and his friends.’
